The sole UK printing of this edition published at The Gregynog Press In 1930. Number '219' of only 225 copies issued. There BOOK is in Very Good++ or better condition. Original quarter tan hermitage calf, board sides with foliated pattern of black, cream, green and orange. The gilt lettered backstrip is lightly toned. A little rubbing to the edges and light wear at corners. A minor scuff to the front cover. Free from inscriptions. Printed on Japanese vellum, a beautiful full-page hand-coloured wood-engraving and 13 large hand-coloured wood-engraved initial letters by R.A. Maynard. The engraving and a number of the initial letters heightened in gold with several other initial letters printed in red, the press-device on the title-page printed in green and gold. T.E. Lawrence was offered £20,000 by Edward Garnett to write the introduction, but declined! The printed dedication is to Charles Doughty. A stunning edition of this medieval epic protected in a loose Mylar archival cover. Loosely inserted is a 4 page flyer 'The Gregynog Press and its books'. This title is listed under the date 1930. Some hand written corrections and additions to the flyer. Collectible.
