Briggs, Raymond ~ When The Wind Blows : Signed Presentation Copy From The Author In The Year Of Publication With Four Signed Enclosures.
Hamish Hamilton : 1982
The First UK printing published by Hamish Hamilton in 1982. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. Original boards with minor bumping to the corners. Illustrated throughout. The book has been signed by the author in the year of publication to the verso of the front end paper: ' For Eileen Ireland with Best Wishes from Raymond Briggs, 18 April 1982'. Accompanied by loosely inserted autographed material to the same dedicatee: 1) A H/W letter dated 1982, discusses the BBC having accepted 'When The Wind Blows' for a radio play and a possible film version, as well as referencing potential dramatisations of 'The Snowman' and 'Fungus The Bogeyman'. 2) A 'Gentleman Jim ' postcard, H/W and signed by the author thanking the recipient for their letter. 3) Author's 'Compliments slip', H/W and signed by the author dated 1992, referring to the recipient's dislike of the title 'Wally' and wishing the recipient good luck with their new career. 4) A H/W author addressed postcard from the author dated 1994: 'Very pleased you liked The Bear. Don't think there is a bibliography as such. The idea sounds a bit grandiose! Am doing a new book at the moment, a biography in strip cartoon..' Presumably the latter was referring to the 'Ethel and Ernest' title which was published in 1998. 'When the Wind Blows' is a harrowing tale of a nuclear attack on Britain by the Soviet Union from the viewpoint of retired couple Jim & Hilda Bloggs. The book was made into an animated film in 1986. One of the scarcest Briggs titles to find signed. Collectible with such attributes.
