The First UK printing published by Gollancz, London in 1958. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. Just a hint of pushing and fading at the spine tips. Very light toning and spotting to the text-block. Free from inscriptions. A very small light stain to the tip of the upper fore text-block which has not encroached onto the pages. Light offsetting to the end-papers. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good++ or better condition with just a little toning to the spine and a little edge wear at the upper spine end and corners. A 3cm closed tear to the upper spine fold. The 'Book Society Recommendation' wraparound band is complete and has slight toning to the spine portion and folds. It has reviews on it by Irvin Shaw and Sandy Wilson. The wrapper and band look very attractive in the removable Brodart archival cover. The 'Dud Avocado' follows the romantic and comedic adventures of a young American who heads overseas to conquer Paris in the late 1950s. Charming, sexy, and hilarious, The author's first novel 'The Dud Avocado' gained instant cult status when it was first published and it remains one of the best novels about growing up fast. An increasingly uncommon book more-so with such attributes.
