The First UK printing published by The globe Playhouse Trust Publications, London in 1973. Number 55 of only 100 copies of a specially bound and numbered edition which was published in advance of the trade edition. The Book is in near Fine condition. Edited with an Introduction by Graham Fawcett. Housed in the original slipcase which is in near Fine condition. Original calf spine, red cloth-covered boards, spine and front cover stamped in gilt. 80 pages, all edges gilt, with B/W illustrated photographs of the contributors. Contains original contributions by Seamus Heaney ('A Flourish for the Prince of Denmark') [Brandes & Durkan B14.a], Ted Hughes ('An Alchemy') [Tabor B65.a.1], D. J. Enright, Harry Guest, Glyn Hughes, Wole Soyinka, Michael Schmidt, Edward Lucie-Smith, Fleur Adcock, Ted Walker, Douglas Dunn, Michael Hamburger, Christopher Hampton and Tanikawa Shuntaro. This special limited edition, is signed by fourteen of the contributors as called for : Seamus Heaney, Ted Hughes, D. J. Enright, Harry Guest, Glyn Hughes, Wole Soyinka, Michael Schmidt, Edward Lucie-Smith, Fleur Adcock, Ted Walker, Douglas Dunn, Michael Hamburger, Christopher Hampton and Tanikawa Shuntaro. In addition this copy has been inscribed by Sam Wanamaker on the title page; 'For Lis and Alex from Sam'. The recipients were the acclaimed Sculptor and Artist Dame Elisabeth Frink and her third husband Alexander Csaky. Sam Wanamaker was an actor and director who was instrumental in recreating Shakespeare's Globe Theatre on the Southbank. A blue plaque at the site pays tribute to this achievement: 'Sam Wanamaker , 1919-1993, Visionary who recreated Shakespeare Globe'. A scarce title with such attributes.
