The sole printing published by The American College Of Greece, Athens in 1999. One of 300 copies hardbound in boards by Ch. Lengas. This copy is one of the few which were the extra-illustrated designer's copies with photographs of Fermor in Cretan garb, Fermor at his home in Kardamyli, Psychoundakis in Crete, and one of the author, the designer, and Psychoundakis at the opening reception for the book. Typography and design by Matthew Jennett. There were also 940 copies sewn into wrappers. The BOOK is in Fine condition. The book has been Signed by Matthew Jennett to the limitation page. The photos are in fine condition and have been tipped in as issued. The text of a letter addressed to Oxford professor Constantine Trypanis (in English and Greek) about the contemporary Cretan poet and resistance hero George Psychoundakis who translated both the Illiad and The Odyssey into his local Cretan Dialect. Psychoundakis was also the author of 'The Cretan runner', a memoir of the Cretan occupation which Leigh Fermor had translated and provided the introduction. Accompanied by the publisher's 4 page book launch invitation and programme. A scarce title especially with such attributes.
