The First UK printing published by Collins, London in 1933. The BOOK is in Very Good- condition. The binding remains very tight with large areas of fading to the covers - see images. Some rubbing and splitting at the spine ends. The gilt titling to the cover and the spine remain bright. One previous owner's gift inscription to the second blank end-paper. The decorative end-papers remain very clean. Internally, apart from very light toning to the page edges, the contents are remarkably clean. The 12 dramatic full page wood engravings, title vignette, 12 full pages, 12 initial letters and 6 tail-pieces are all complete. The WRAPPER is complete and is the correct first issue and is in Very Good condition. It has some loss at the spine ends, rear lower edge and the flap folds - see images. It is toned and marked in places. It is protected in a removable plastic cover. Clare Leighton's first book and still her most celebrated.
