The First UK printing published by Open Gate Books, London in 1971. The BOOK is in Very Good++ condition. Light bowing of the front board. Mild offsetting to the end papers with a hint of toning to the page edges. Previous owner's name to the front upper pastedown which is obscured by the front wrapper flap. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good+ condition. Mild rubbing and edge-wear with slight loss at the upper spine. A small closed tear to the upper rear panel edge. A notoriously difficult wrapper to find in collectible condition, the wrapper looks very attractive in the removable Brodart archival cover. The photographer's first book which was issued in a very small print run as the casebound edition. Sir Donald McCullin, CBE, Hon FRPS is a British photojournalist, particularly recognised for his war photography and images of urban strife. His career, which began in 1959, has specialised in examining the underside of society, and his photographs have depicted the unemployed, downtrodden and the impoverished. There was a major and highly acclaimed Tate Britain retrospective exhibition of his work in 2019. An important monograph covering the work of photo journalist and social documentarian Don McCullin. Collectible.
