A little edge-wear at the spine ends with a little loss to the upper rear spine fold area. A few closed tears to the lower front panel edge with associated creasing. The wrapper artwork remains bright and looks striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. The scarce 'Carnegie Medal Winner 1958' promotional band is complete and is in near Fine condition with just a hint of toning to the spine portion. Wonderfully B/W illustrations throughout by Susan Einzig (A contemporary and friend of John Minton) . Although Philip Pullman was to be acclaimed as ' The Winner of the Carnegie Winners' title, he referred to this title as his winner! The childrens' classic title in lovely condition.
