A Very Sharp Example Of A Scarce Title
Plath, Sylvia ~ The Colossus
Heinemann, London : 1960
The First UK Printing published by Heinemann in 1960. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. The slightest of pushing at the lower spine end. A hint of toning and two spots to the text block with the pages remaining clean. Gilt titling remains very bright. Free from inscriptions, erasures and bookplates. The WRAPPER is neatly price-clipped and is in near Fine condition. Very light toning to the spine, edges and folds. A hint of edge wear at the fold corners. The wrapper is a very bright example and presents extremely well in the removable Brodart archival cover. A very sharp copy. 'The Colossus' was the first complete volume of poetry to be published by Plath and the only volume published in her lifetime. She had published her later novel of 1963 'The Bell Jar' under the pseudonym of 'Victoria Lucas'. Seamus Heaney said of 'The Colossus' : 'On every page, a poet is serving notice that she has earned her credentials and knows her trade'. The nicest copy we have handled to date. Collectible.
