The First UK printing published by Faber and Faber in 1929. The first title in the 'Poets on the Poets' series. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. Mild offsetting to the endpapers and light toning to the text-block. Appears unread with many of the pages remaining uncut. The WRAPPER is complete and is in near Fine condition. Toning to the edges and and spine with just a tiny amount of loss at the upper spine tip. The Rex Whistler designed wrapper looks very attractive in the removable Brodart archival cover. This same design is repeated on the front board. The book bears the bookplate of 'John and Myfanwy Piper' to the rear upper pastedown. The book has been inscribed to John Piper on the front blank end-paper; 'John, with greatest admiration and love, Eric'. Additionally signed below this inscription by ' Peter P.'. These being the signatures of Eric Crozier and Peter Pears. Crozier was an acclaimed writer and theatrical producer. (Sir) Peter Pears was the famous tenor and lifelong partner of composer Benjamin Britten. Pears, Crozier and Piper had all worked together on numerous occasions on many of Britten's operas and works. A wonderful association copy.
