The First UK printing published by Heinemann in 1956. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. Light pushing at the spine ends with a hint of fading at the spine tips. Very light toning to the text-block. Free from inscriptions and erasures. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good++ or better condition. Mild edge-wear with a little loss at the corners and spine ends with a small chip to the upper front panel. A small 3cm closed tear to the upper front panel edge. A few minor nicks and small closed tears. The spine colouring has not toned or faded with the pink colouring at the spine ends remaining very vibrant. A little toning to the flap upper edges. The wrapper design looks very striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. Wonderful Illustrations, endpapers and wrapper designs by Janet and Anne Grahame-Johnstone. Accompanied by a loosely inserted folded 4 page notelet letter bearing a Dalmatian image to the front cover. This notelet is a three page handwritten letter which is signed and dated (1976) by the author. In the letter, the author refers to: '...I am so glad that you enjoyed 'The Hundred and one Dalmatians' and I hope you will go on enjoying 'The Starlight Barking'.......'You may like to know that my husband and I have two Dalmatians of our own, named Disney and Jason. We also have a donkey, lots of fantail pigeons, and many wild ducks on the pond in the orchard. We live in a 300 year old cottage deep in the country........Dodie Smith'. The notelet is in Fine condition. The provenance for the letter is described on an envelope supplied by the previous owner. A very sharp copy of this iconic children's title and very collectible with such attributes.
