The very scarce first title in the series
Travers, P.L. ~ Mary Poppins
Gerald Howe, London : 1934
The First UK printing published by Gerald Howe, London in 1934. The BOOK is in Very Good++ or better condition. The binding remain very tight. Free from inscriptions and erasures. Slight pushing and darkening at the spine tips (matching the slight loss in the wrapper). Some light marks to the page edges in a few places but otherwise bright contents. The WRAPPER is complete and correctly priced at '5s. net' as called for. A slither of loss at the spine head not affecting any lettering. A small chip to the base of the spine removing the letter 'E' from the publisher's logo 'HOWE'. A short closed tear with some associated creasing at the top right hand corner of the back panel. A few minor nicks and mild edge-wear. The wrapper looks very striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. B/W Illustrations (some full page) throughout by Mary Shepard. The very scarce first title in the acclaimed 'Mary Poppins' series and one of the most important books in this genre from the last century. A rare survivor and the first we have handled. Housed in a custom solander box with marbled, paper, silk tie and gilt titling. Collectible.
