This copy comes together with five ephemeral items, including: 1) An A4 sewn card booklet of Sir John Betjeman's printed address, given on the occasion of the Service of Thanksgiving for Erith's death on the 15th January 1974; 2) The stapled order of service from the same; 3) A sympathy notecard, handwritten by the author (Erith's daughter) to 'Andrew' on the occasion of her father's death ("It is a great comfort to read such a generous appreciation from another architect and to know that you have faith in the permanence of what my father did", she writes, "oddly enough we were talking only a few weeks ago about his having kept the torch of classical tradition alight and he said hardly alight but smouldering!"); 4) An invitation card to the private view of Erith's exhibition at the Royal Academy on the 21st September 1976, stapled to a printed synopsis on RA headed notepaper; and 5) A folding exhibition flyer from the same. A wonderful collection of items celebrating the life and work of Raymond Erith, a classicist architect "swimming against the tide of modernism" (Preface). Most uncommon.
