Atwood, Margaret ~The Handmaid’s Tale : Signed By The Author
Jonathan Cape, London : 1986
The First UK printing published by Jonathan Cape, London in 1986. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. Publisher's original black cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in the Fred Marcellino illustrated wrapper. The binding square and firm, the cloth and gilt bright and fresh. A hint of pushing at the spine ends and the usual toning to text-block and outer page edges due to the quality of the paper-stock used. Otherwise clean throughout. Complete with the lightly creased WRAPPER which is otherwise without fading, loss or tears. Not price-clipped (£9.95 to the lower front flap). The wrapper is protected in a removable Brodart archival cover. Signed (without dedication) by the author on the title page. A ticket for the signing event is loosely laid in as provenance. Winner of the first Arthur C. Clarke Award, shortlisted for The Booker Prize and nominated for the 1986 Nebula Award, Atwood's futuristic feminist dystopian novel has been the basis for film and Emmy Award winning screen adaptations. A very sharp copy of what has now become a very elusive title with such attributes.
