Benchley, Peter ~ Jaws : With A Tipped In Postcard Signed And Doodled (Shark) By The Author
Andre Deutsch : 1974
The First UK printing published by Andre Deutsch in 1974. The BOOK is in Very Good++ condition. Light pushing at the spine tips. Some light spotting and toning to the text-block. Light spotting to the prelims. Free from inscriptions and erasures. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good++ condition. Some light toning and spotting to the flap edges as usually encountered. A hint of toning to the spine but the red lettering to the spine remains unfaded. The wrapper looks very striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. A plain postcard has been tipped in to the front blank ned-paper. This postcard has been signed and doodled with a shark by the author. The scarcer First UK edition of 'the birth of a phenomenon' that would lead to the turning point in Steven Spielberg's career. Inspired partly by Benchley's journalist work on shark attacks, 'JAWS' became an immediate bestseller and its film rights were quickly optioned. While it wasn't Spielberg's first feature-length film, 'JAWS' is the film that made him famous. A very collectible copy.
