THE AUTHOR'S FINAL WORK, EXTREMELY SCARCE SIGNED.
CARTER, Angela ~ Wise Children. Inscribed by the author.
FIRST UK PRINTING. Chatto & Windus, London: 1991.
8vo., black publisher's boards lettered in gilt to spine; highly decorative purple and white endpapers by Corina Sargood; in the unclipped photographic dustwrapper (£13.99 to front flap) featuring the Dolly Sisters; THE BOOK very near fine; THE WRAPPER near-fine, just a little creased at edges. The wrapper is protected in a removable Brodart archival cover. FIRST UK EDITION. This copy inscribed by Angela Carter to the title page: "For Edward / with much love / from / Angela". The recipient was Edward Horesh, a founding member of the University of Bath and the main designere as well as the first Director of Studies of the Economics Degree Scheme (1966-77). Horesh was a good friend of Carter's, and she stayed with him for a number of months during the Spring of 1973 before purchasing her own place in the city. An excellent association copy of the author's final novel to be published in her lifetime. She died shortly afterwards, in February 1992. Although some copies were published with official signed bookplates, it is scarce indeed to find this title flat signed due to the author's poor health at the time of publication.
