Born and raised in London, Cox (1903-1998) received a scholarship to the West Ham School of Art at the age of just thirteen. After training for six years he worked in advertising before turning his hand to printmaking, painting and dustwrapper design, as well as penning a number of novels and numerous poems. This book also includes an invaluable annotated bibliography of the Gogmagog Press, which Cox founded in 1957. Through the press, 35 titles of his highly original, beautifully illustrated, hand-made and limited edition books followed between 1957 and 1983. The name derives from Cox's interest in mythology and folklore, with the character referring to a giant who lived in Cornwall during the 12th century. A wonderful example.
