The Limited numbered and signed edition of just 100 copies

Coetzee J. M. ~ The Childhood of Jesus : Special Limited Edition Signed By The Author

First UK Printing : Limited Edition : Harvill Secker, London : 2013

The First UK Printing, the Limited Edition published by Harvill Secker, London in 2013. 8vo., quarter cream over black leather boards, lettered with title in gilt to the lower corner and along the backstrip; black endpapers, black ribbon marker. The BOOK is in fine condition and is housed in the original black cloth slipcase which has just a couple of light marks. The Limited numbered and signed edition of just 100 copies. This is number '81' signed by the author to the limitation page. One of Coetzee's later novels, which tells the story of a man, Simon, and a young boy, David, who immigrate to a new country. There, they receive new identities, names, and even birthdays, and must adjust to their new lives while trying to find David's true mother. The book was followed in 2013 by a sequel, 'The Schooldays of Jesus' and in 2019 by 'The Death of Jesus', each following the life of David as he adjusts to his life in this foreign land. In many ways an allegorical retelling of the nativity story, the book received positive, though some confused reviews, with 'The Observer' labeling it "an early contender for an unprecedented third Booker prize", and Theo Tait in 'The Guardian' calling it "a Buddhist utopia and a Kafkaesque retelling of the nativity story with compelling and puzzling results". A handsome production.
