Coetzee, J.M. ~ Waiting For The Barbarians : Signed By The Author
Secker & Warburg, London : 1980
The First UK printing published by Secker & Warburg, London in 1980. The BOOK is in near Fine condition and appears unread. The WRAPPER is complete and is in near Fine condition with some uniform fading of the red colouring to the spine, but far less than usually encountered. The lettering to the spine remains very legible. The wrapper is protected in a removable Brodart archival cover. The book has been signed (without dedication) by J.M. Coetzee to the title page. A ticket for the signing event is loosely inserted for provenance. 'Waiting for the Barbarians' was chosen by Penguin for its series 'Great Books of the 20th Century' and won both the 'James Tait Black Memorial Prize' and the 'Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize for fiction'. American composer Philip Glass has also written an opera of the same name based on the book which premiered in September 2005. The book was also the basis for the 2018 film directed by Ciro Guerra and featuring Mark Rylance, Robert Pattinson, and Johnny Depp. A very scarce title to find signed by the Nobel Laureate author.
