The First UK printing published by Methuen Childrens Books, London in 1993. Not issued with a wrapper. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. Just a hint of rubbing to the corners and some very light superficial indentations to the illustrated boards, which are barely discernible but mentioned for completeness. A neat former owner's name in red ink to the upper verso of the front free end-paper. Some light handling marks to the page edges otherwise the book appears to have been little read. A small closed 2cm tear to the upper rear end-paper adjacent to the spine. This is the extremely scarce first issue of Julia Donaldson's very first book which would have been issued in a very small print run. A modern rarity (indeed the first example that I have seen or offered for sale) and not to be confused with the later re-issue in dustwrapper by Macmillan in 2003. I can see no record of any copies having appeared at auction. Superb colour illustrations and end-papers by Axel Scheffler - the beginning of a wonderful partnership !! The book is protected in a removable Mylar archival cover. Collectible.
