One of just 30 sets.

ENGLISH, Andy ~ Ten engravings cut for “Freshly Picked” by Jojo Tulloh. Signed by the engraver.

LIMITED EDITION. Andy English, Ely: 2009.

Ten wood engravings, printed in black on Zerkall paper (each measuring 17.5 x 22.5 approx); on versos only; together with loose title and limitation pages; all housed in a custom-made green cardboard slip, inside marbled paper flapcase, backed in red cloth with red ribbon ties and replicated sunflower engraving serving as label to the upper cover; fine. Limited edition, one of just 30 sets gathered, hand numbered and signed by the engraver, of which this is no. 28. Printed from the original woodblocks using an 1865 Albion handpress. The engravings appeared in "Freshly Cut" by Jojo Tulloh, published by Chatto & Windus. Andy English was born in Norfolk in 1956, and was self-taught as an artist. It wasn't until 1991 that he began to engrave on endgrain wood, describing the discovery as so natural to him that it seemed to be remembered by his hands, and not learned. Elected to the Society of Wood Engravers in 1997, he was a fervent and early supporter of the internet, and utilised it to develop a website, bringing print making techniques to a wider audience. 'Freshly Picked' is a publication devoted to the description of planting and producing fruit and vegetables in urban settings. As Tulloh guides the reader through the process, she describes her own inner-city allotment, and the meals which can be produced from just a few square metres of land - from gazpacho, to flat breads, to picnics. The engravings comprise: Drying & Bottling; Spring; The Basics; Pumpkin Patch; New Potatoes; Sunflowers; Night Picnic; Picking Rhubarb; Courgettes; and Butterfly & Cabbage. Decidedly scarce.
