Published by Edward Arnold and printed at the Essex House Press 'under the care of C. R. Ashbee' in 1901. The BOOK is in Very Good++ or better condition. Number '140' of only 250 copies issued. The original parchment-backed decorative paper-covered boards have yapped edges and gilt lettering to the spine. Slight mottling to the outer edges of the boards and light pushing to the ends of the vellum spine. Free from bookplates, inscriptions and erasures. Internally clean with loose tissue guards as issued. The book is protected in a removable Mylar archival cover. Illustrations, ornamental borders, frontispiece and initial drawn by William Strang and cut by Bernard Sleigh. Erasmus' satirical essay is considered to be one of the most notable works of the Renaissance and played an important role in the beginnings of the Protestant Reformation. The Essex House 4 page prospectus / order form which features this title is loosely laid and is in near Fine condition. The scarce thirteenth title from the Essex House Press.
