He was later acquitted and released and went to live in Berlin. His German publisher Herr Rowohlt knew of its existence, found the manuscript and deciphered it. It was then published under his imprint in 1950, three years after Fallada's death. This, the first English translation by Charlotte and A.L. Lloyd was subsequently published two years later. One of the key works by this German Author, who has had a major resurgence of interest in the last few years. Scarce
