The First UK printing published by Faber & Faber, London in 1931. The book is a travel-book through Hong kong, China, Malaysia, Burma, and Sri Lanka. It ’was described by a reviewer as “more full of incident and good character-drawing than many novels.”’ (Wrapper Blurb for author’s novel 'Anna' also published in 1931). The striking wrapper artwork is by Edward Bawden. The book is in near Fine condition with just the odd spotting in a few places. Green top-stain still present. The wrapper is complete and is in Very Good+ or better condition. It has split at the rear spine fold and also has three vertical closed tears across the spine, all of which have been repaired with tape to the verso. Some edge-wear, toning and a little loss in places but presents very well in the Brodart archival cover. A rare survivor which rarely appears in commerce, with none having appeared at auction. JSIC lists only five holding institutions. Only the second copy we have handled.
