Very scarce as the first issue with the wrapper

Firth, Violet M. (Dion Fortune) ~ Avalon Of The Heart

Frederick Muller, London : 1934

The First UK printing published by Frederick Muller, London in 1934. The BOOK is in Very Good++ or better condition. Original publisher's blue boards with green tilting and decoration. Light pushing at the spine tips and the corners. Free from inscriptions and a small previous pencilled price erasure with a mild associated crease to the upper front blank end-paper. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good++ or better condition. Light edge-wear with a little loss at the upper spine end. The spine has some tape repairs to the verso. Mild spotting in places with a stain to the upper spine to the verso, which barely shows through to the front. The wrapper appears a little short to the book, approximately 2mm. The wrapper is protected in a removable Brodart archival cover. This haunting book is a mystic's tribute to Glastonbury, 'the holyest erthe in Englande'. 'The description of Glastonbury remains one of the most evocative and poignant accounts of this wild yet holy place; a power center polarizing with distant Jerusalem and linking and harmonizing the Christian way with the primeval and pagan past of England (Amazon). Violet M. Firth was the real name of a prolific author who later wrote under the more widely known pseudonym of Dion Fortune. 'She was a British occultist, ceremonial magician, and writer. She was a co-founder of the 'Fraternity of the Inner Light', an occult organisation that promoted philosophies which she claimed had been taught to her by spiritual entities known as the Ascended Masters. A prolific writer, she produced a large number of articles and books on her occult ideas and also authored seven novels, several of which expound occult themes..... Fortune is considered one of the most significant occultists and ceremonial magicians of the early 20th century. The Fraternity she founded survived her and in later decades spawned a variety of related groups based upon her teachings. Her novels in particular proved an influence on later occult and modern Pagan groups such as Wicca' (Wiki). An extremely elusive title, more-so with the wrapper. The first we have handled.
