SIGNED BY BOTH FULLER AND MOSTYN.
FULLER, Leonard J.; [Marjorie MOSTYN, Illus.] ~ Cornish Pasty: A Painter’s Adventures in a Sister Art. Signed by the poet and illustrator.
The St. Ives Printing and Publishing Company, St. Ives: [1956].
8vo., bright red boards, lettered in gilt to upper cover; together in the printed dustwrapper featuring one of the drawings by Mostyn to the upper panel; with 12 black and white illustrations; THE BOOK a very good copy, ever-so-slight splaying to boards, a little light toning, spotting and offsetting, mostly affecting the endpapers; THE WRAPPER also very good, with a little spotting, slightly darkened and creased along folds, and some small nicks and chips to edges, mostly to spine tips and folds; one small hole to the lower portion of spine, and a couple of short closed tears, the longest (2cm) at foot of spine. The wrapper is protected in a removable Brodart archival cover. A very scarce collection of "over one hundred bits and pieces evolved during a period of great strain in the World War years", signed by both the poet and illustrator. Fuller was primarily an artist of portraits, still life and landscapes in oil. He had moved to St. Ives in 1938, where he founded the St Ives School of Painting. Marjorie Mostyn was born in Hertfordshire, and studied art under the tutelage of John Singer Sergeant. When Fuller passed away in 1973 she took over the running of the School, and continued to paint, focusing on child portraits. The poems and drawings are here dedicated to the county they called home for many years ("St Ives. A haven in a sea of blue! White gulls awheeling, Brown sails astealing..."). Very scarce.
