Garner, Alan ~ The Weirdstone of Brisingamen : With Three H/W Letters By The Author
Collins, London : 1960
The First UK printing published by Collins, London in 1960. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. A hint of pushing at the spine tips and some very light spotting to the text-block. Free from inscriptions. Light offsetting to the map end-papers. The WRAPPER is complete and is in near Fine condition. Light edge-wear to the spine tips and corners with light creasing and a little rubbing. The colouring to the spine remains bright. The George Adamson wrapper artwork looks striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. Accompanied by three letters from the author (with original envelopes) to the same recipient. Garner's calligraphic script is superb. Each of the three letters are works of art in their own right. One letter reads : 'Dear Victoria, I thought you might like to know that the sequel to The Weirdstone of Brisingamen is being published by Collins on 29 august. It is called The Moon of Gomrath: I hope you'll read it . Your sincerely, Alan Garner'. The other two letters discuss the recipient's kindness in writing to an author and a canoe journey made by Garner. The letters are dated between 1961-63 and include the author's address. One of the letters has been initialled and decorated in red ink by the author. Another has been initialled and decorated in red, green and blue ink by the author. All three letters are in near Fine condition and have been folded. Two of the three original envelopes have been hand written by Garner. The third one has been printed. A very sharp copy of the author's first work of fantasy fiction. Very scarce to find signed material from Alan Garner. Very collectible with such attributes.
