The First UK printing published by Putnam (london) in 1957. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. The yellow top-stain remains bright. A little light pushing at the spine ends. Free from inscriptions and erasures. The scarce WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good+ condition. Some closed tears to the upper spine and rear flap folds with a small closed tear to the rear lower edge. A little creasing and rubbing art the upper spine end. Light toning to the spine. The John Minton wrapper artwork looks very striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. The author's first gay novel, which received an enthusiastic review by John Betjeman in 1957. The book is dedicated 'To the memory of John Minton, a friend of many years', with Minton having died earlier in the same year. Goff was instrumental in persuading the Booker Brothers to sponsor a literary prize in the 1960's and went on to become the Booker Prize administrator for many years. Very scarce.
