INSCRIBED BY BLUNDEN TO HIS FUTURE WIFE.
[GREAT WAR]; Edmund BLUNDEN [Intro.] ~ The War 1914-1918. Inscribed by Edmund Blunden.
FIRST UK PRINTING. The Reader, Russell Square, London: [1930].
8vo., green paper wraps, lettered in navy blue to the upper and inside covers; neatly stamped '6D' to the upper cover; THE BOOK very good, though chipped along spine and sometime repaired internally with archival tape where cover had become detached; sometime folded horizontally; pages a touch toned but otherwise clean. The book is protected in both a removable mylar cover and sleeve. FIRST UK EDITION. This copy neatly inscribed by Blunden to the upper cover: "Dear S. N. / I find this waiting for a home; it's of course a / very imperfect performance, but you might like it. / E. B." The recipient was novelist and critic Sylva Norman, who later became Blunden's wife. Uncommon, especially with this presentation inscription. A bibliography of some 160 Great War publications, which include sections on History, Personal Impressions and Recollections, Psychological Interpretations, Fiction, Poetry, Drama and Divisional and Regimental Histories. Predating Cyril Falls 'War Books' as well as Catherine Reilly's bibliography of First World War poetry, it remains an important early example, and is scarce, even more so with the warm personal presentation inscription by Blunden.
