2 Vols. : The Advance Review Copy And The First UK Trade Edition. Both UK First Printings published MacGibbon & Kee, London in 1970. The Advance Review Copy is in Very Good+ condition. It has the original brown paper wrappers with a printed label to the upper cover and an ink note to the label ‘Oct 12 1970’ (the publication date). The book has a moderate lean but the binding remains tight. Mild edge-wear and creasing to the fragile paper covers. Light spotting to the text-block. With copious pencil markings and annotations throughout. The Trade edition BOOK is in near Fine condition with a Very Good++ price--clipped wrapper which has a little creasing to the edges and the inevitable fading of the crimson lettering to the spine but less so than usually encountered. A 4 cm closed tear to the rear upper spine fold. Both books are protected in removable arrival covers. Loosely inserted is a Press Release from the publishers, with an ink note at the top reading : 'Mavis, she sounds interesting, if militant…'. There is also a one page typed letter signed by Germaine Greer to the author Mary Ingham, dated '7th February 1982', which clarifies a few details about her birthplace. She goes on to add : ‘It would probably create a confusing cross-reference in the Fontana Dictionary of Modern Thought, if you were to say that I was influenced in my intellectual development by the Sydney Libertarians, who are among the many grievous omissions in the F.D.of M.T. along with De Beauvoir, Knox, the Oxford movement, Von Reit and so forth. I should prefer that these were rectified before my name appeared in the volume. …’. One of the defining books of the second feminist wave, and an international bestseller.
