Hampson, John ( Pseud. John Hampson Simpson) ~ O Providence : Signed By The Author : With The Striking John Armstrong Wrapper
The Hogarth Press : 1932
The First UK printing published by The Hogarth Press in 1932. The BOOK is in near Fine condition with just a little pushing at the spine ends and light ghosting to the spine. The gilt titling remains very bright. Light toning to the text block and page edges. The crimson top-stain is present but lightly faded. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good++condition. Some toning to the spine with a little edge wear at the spine ends and corners. Some toning to the edges. The John Armstrong wrapper artwork looks very striking in the removable Brodart archival cover (John Armstrong was a major surrealist artist who has representation at the Tate Gallery). The book has been inscribed by the author to the front blank end-paper: 'H.M. Cashmore, with the compliments of John Hampson Simpson, 11-2-32'. Presumably the date of inscription was the publication day. Cashmore was the City librarian in the author's home town of Birmingham. The carbon copy of his letter thanking Hampson is loosely inserted.
