Isherwood, Christopher ~ Christopher And His Kind : Signed By The Author, Alec Guinness, Valerie Hobson and Laurie Lee : Accompanied By The Foyles Luncheon Seating Plan Celebrating The Book Launch Which Is Additionally Signed By Laurie Lee, Alec Guinness, Lady Diana Cooper and Christina Foyle

Eyre Methuen : 1977

The First UK printing published by Eyre Methuen in 1977. The BOOK is in near Fine condition with only very light fading of the yellow top-stain. The WRAPPER is complete and is in near Fine condition with just a hint of colour fading to the lower spine and the lower edge. A Publisher's price sticker to the lower front flap as usually encountered. The wrapper is protected in a removable Brodart archival cover. The book has been Signed (without dedication) on the title page by the author. Additionally Signed on the front pastedown by Alec Guinness, Laurie Lee and Valerie Hobson ( the famous actress who was also Baroness Profumo - her husband went on to be at the centre of the infamous Christine Keeler sex scandal!). The signatures were obtained (presumably by one of the guests) at The Foyles Luncheon which was organised by Foyles Bookshop 'In honour of Mr Christopher Isherwood to celebrate the publication of his autobiography 'Christopher and his Kind''. The four page 'Dorchester Hotel : Foyles Luncheon brochure /seating plan' is loosely inserted. This brochure has been additionally Signed by Alec Guiness, Laurie Lee, Lady Diana Cooper and Christina Foyle (The owner of Foyles Bookshop). Loosely inserted is a rather acerbically written newspaper cutting reviewing the luncheon event. Christopher and His Kind' covers the most memorable ten years in the writer's life-from 1929, when Isherwood left England to spend a week in Berlin and decided to stay there until 1939, when he moved to America. His friends and colleagues during this time included W. H. Auden, Stephen Spender, and E. M. Forster, as well as colorful figures he met in Germany and later fictionalised in his Berlin novel 'Cabaret'. Scarce with such attributes.
