The First UK printing published by Faber, London in 1982. The author's debut novel. Signed (without dedication) by the Nobel Laureate author to the title page. A ticket for the signing event accompanies this title as provenance. With the publisher's scarce promotional flyer loosely inserted. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. Some light spotting to the end-papers, a neat small ink date to the rear end paper and some light spotting to the text-block. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good++ or better condition. Some light fading of colouring to the spine as usually encountered with a hint of creasing to the spine tips. The wrapper is protected in a removable Brodart archival cover. The title won the '1982 Winifred Holtby Memorial Prize'. Ishiguro received a £1000 advance from the publishers Faber for the novel after a meeting with Robert McCrum, the fiction editor. The first issue was released in a very small initial printing run. A sharp copy and scarce with such attributes. Housed in a custom solander box with marbled inserts, silk tie and gilt lettering
