Very scarce with the wrapper

The First UK printing published by Ernest Benn Limited, London in 1955. The BOOK is in near Fine condition.Publisher's original red cloth, lettered in gilt to the spine, gilt ornament to front cover, with the original pictorial wrapper; pp. 163, [5], with numerous full page and in-text illustrations. A neat penned contemporary gift inscription to the front blank end-paper : 'To Peter, with love, from, Snork Maiden' with a penned date of '14/9/55' to the lower same page. The ink to the penned date has run slightly. The WRAPPER is neatly price-clipped and is in Very Good++ condition. Some edge-wear with a little rubbing, creasing and small losses at the spine ends and lower rear edge. Some short closed tears, the largest being 2cm. Some splitting to the lower rear flap fold. The wrapper has some light age related markings. The wrapper remains striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. The first edition in English. One summer, a restless volcano erupts, causing Moominvalley to flood and forcing the Moomins to leave their beloved home. Seeking refuge, they find themselves on a mysterious floating theatre. Moominsummer Madness (Swedish title 'Farlig midsommar') is the fifth in the series of Tove Jansson's Moomins books, first published in the original Swedish in 1954. A timeless classic, it has remained in print for over seventy years and translated into more than fifty languages. Scarce with the wrapper in any condition.
