Jansson, Tove ~ Who Will Comfort Toffle? : With Ephemera
Ernest Benn, London : 1960
The First UK Printing published by Ernest Benn, London in 1960. The BOOK is in near Fine condition with just some minor bumping to the lower corners. Original red boards, with white lettering and an image of Toffle to the front board. Free from erasures and inscriptions. A hint of toning to the edges of the plain end-papers. Internally very clean. The WRAPPER is complete and is in near Fine condition. A few small nicks and light toning to the folds and the upper edge in places. Tiny rubs to the lower corners. The wraparound coloured artwork looks striking in the removable Brodart archival folder. Profusely illustrated in colour throughout by the author / illustrator Tove Jansson. Loosely inserted is a blank sheet of paper with a B/W image of Toffle to the right upper corner. This scarce ephemeral item is clean and in Fine condition, was issued with some of the copies at publication. Translated into English from the Swedish by Kingsley Hart, the lonely Toffle leaves his home to look for friends, eventually finding the Miffle and rescuing her from the Groke. As nice as copy as you are likely to find, and now increasingly elusive in any condition.
