McCullin, Don (Introduction By John Le Carre) ~ Hearts of Darkness : Signed By The Author

Secker and Warburg : 1980

The First UK printing published by Secker and Warburg in 1980. The much scarce casebound edition. The BOOK is in near Fine condition with just a little pushing at the spine ends. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good++ condition. It has minor creasing to the edges and is faded to the spine which has encroached onto the front panel. The wrapper is protected in a removable Brodart archival cover. The book has been Signed by Don McCullin to the title page. The book includes an introduction by John le Carré, a list of captions and a bibliography. '....He (Don McCullin) can do nothing lazily, nothing that does not touch upon the enigma of existence. In a grey, confused, elusive, ever-compromising world, he has the gall to think of life and death and the purpose of existence.' [Taken from the Introduction by John le Carré, reprinted on the back cover]. Sir Donald McCullin, CBE, Hon FRPS is a British photojournalist, particularly recognised for his war photography and images of urban strife. His career, which began in 1959, has specialised in examining the underside of society, and his photographs have depicted the unemployed, downtrodden and the impoverished. There was a major and highly acclaimed Tate Britain retrospective exhibition of his work in 2019. An important monograph covering the work of photo journalist and social documentarian Don McCullin. Scarce with such attributes.
