The First UK printing published by Faber and Faber in 1957. The BOOK is in Very Good++ condition with very slight pushing at the spine ends. The gilt titling remains bright. A hint of toning to the text-block with some offsetting to the blank end-papers. Free from inscriptions and erasures. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good+ condition. Light edge-wear with some small closed tears, creasing and a little loss at the corners and spine ends. Some fading of the red colouring to the spine in places. The wrapper is protected in a removable Brodart archival cover. The book has been Signed (without dedication) by the author (as 'Jan Morris') to the title page. The book has also been signed by the dedicatee Elizabeth Morris below the printed dedication. Elizabeth Morris is the wife of the author. The third scarce title from the acclaimed travel writer James (now Jan) Morris. Very collectible with such attributes.
