The sole UK printing published by The Vine Press, Steyning in 1921 . Limited to a total of 590 copies. This is number ’31’ of 40 'De-luxe' copies printed on hand-made paper. The BOOK is in Very Good++ or better condition. Half title, title printed in red and black, woodcut initials, colophon printed in red. With two hand-coloured woodcut illustrations which are primarily Vine Press standard devices, with the hand-colouring in these deluxe copies likely carried out by Kathleen Neuburg, as was often the case. Original brown pebbled cloth-backed coloured pictorial paper boards with design by Beatrice Linda Stanbrough. The original printed label to the spine is toned and has a small loss to the upper right corner just impacting on the lettering. Some pages remain uncut and unopened. The book is lightly marked, with some light pushing and a little rubbing to the corners. Light pushing to the spine tips. Free from inscriptions. Attractive bookplate of J Cluny Harkness to the front pastedown. Harkness was an Australian businessman and the bookplate was designed by the artist Pat Terry. Tipped in Erratum slip present to pages 38-39. The book is protected in a removable Mylar archival cover. This selection of Neuburg's poetry follows his first work, 'Lillygay’ (1920), and was originally intended to be part of a larger collection called ‘Starcraft’, which was never published. Victor B. Neuburg was a poet, writer, theosophist and occultist, friend and sometime partner of Aleister Crowley. Having served in the First World War, he moved to Steyning in West Sussex where he founded The Vine Press. Loosely inserted is a scarce 4 page flyer from the Vine Press with reviews of this title. A sharp copy.
