The First UK printing published by The Vine Press, Steyning in 1922. Number ’7’ of 40 ‘de-luxe’ copies printed on hand-made paper from a total limitation of 590 copies. 22 striking hand-coloured woodcut illustrations and decorated initials by Dennis West. The BOOK is in Very Good++ condition. Some fading of the red colouring to the spine with a few ink spots to the spine. A damp-stain limited to the upper portion of the cloth spine, and the lower board with some toning to the edges. Light rubbing to the corners. Top edge gilt still present. Internally clean. Warmly inscribed by the author to the illustrator Dennis West on the front blank end-paper : ‘ The Artist : from the Editor : Fraternally , May 19, 1923, Steyning , Sussex, Victor B. Neuberg’. Additionally signed by Victor Neuberg underneath the portrait frontis. Neuberg was an author and occultist, and a friend and sometime partner of Aleister Crowley. As poetry editor of the ‘Sunday Referee’, Neuberg had been the first to publish Dylan Thomas’ work. The book is protected in a removable Mylar archival cover. A very handsome production. Scarce.
