Norton, Mary ~ The Borrowers : With A Loosely Laid In Note From The Author’s Grand-Daughter
Dent, London : 1952
The First UK printing published by Dent, London in 1952. The BOOK is in near Fine condition with just a little pushing and light rubbing at the spine ends and corner tips. A hint of toning to the text-block, otherwise internally very bright with a colour frontispiece and many sepia illustrations within the text and illustrated endpapers, all by Diana Stanley. Blue cloth boards with a brown vignette to the front cover and brown titles and illustration to the spine. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good- condition. Worn with losses to the spine ends and corners. A large diagonal closed tear across most of the rear panel with closed tears to the flap folds. Some edge-wear, creasing and age related markings but having said this the wrapper comes together well in the removable Brodart archival cover. Loosely laid in is a short H/W note from Mary Norton's grand-daughter Charlotte, which accompanied the book as a Christmas present. The name of one of the recipients is at the head of the title page. Overall an acceptable copy of a rare 1st edition of this children's classic.
