FIRST UK PRINTING. Faber and Faber, London: 2003.
8vo., white publisher's boards, backstrip lettered in black with Faber device to foot; bright red endpapers; together in the unclipped dustwrapper (£12.99) designed by Pentagram; THE BOOK a touched bumped at spine tips but otherwise fine; THE WRAPPER fine. The wrapper is protected in a removable Brodart archival cover. First UK edition, first printing. This copy double signed by the author to the title page as both Peter Finlay and DBC Pierre. Also complete with the ephemeral promotional broadsheet (A4, folded) on Harris County Penitentiary Headed paper. The wrapper is protected in a removable Brodart archival cover. A fine copy of this Booker Prize-winning novel, and the debut of DBC Pierre. The book is a black comedy, centering around the protagonist, Vernon, who is accused of being an accomplice to a mass shooting at his local high school. Written in the style and voice of a teenage boy (Act I begins 'Shit Happened'), the book was described by Booker Prize judges as a "coruscating black comedy reflecting our alarm but also our fascination with America", and covers themes of adolescence, materialism and consumerism. The book has been adapted twice for stage, most famously at the Young Vic in 2007, starring Colin Morgan as Vernon and Penny Layden as Vaine. The insert here shows a typed letter, signed from Vernon to the reader, on prison notepaper. "I just want for somebody to know the truth before I die", he writes. "P.S: for the love of God, don't tell my ole lady you got this." Scarce as such.
