A catalogue printed to coincide with an exhibition at the Arthur Jeffress Gallery in 1962. John Piper (1903-1992), first studied law before attending the Richmond School of Art and the Royal College of Art. His early career saw him producing studies of churches, cathedrals and stained glass, and he is perhaps still best known today for his depictions of bombed-out buildings during WWII, most notably Coventry Cathedral, which made him a household name - at the time in which this catalogue was produced, one of his window designs was unveiled at that same cathedral. He also produced designs for the opera and ballet. The oils and watercolours contained within this short catalogue focus on his architectural studies of the buildings of Rome, and follow a similarly successful event at the same gallery which showcased his portrayals of Venice.
