The First UK printing published by John Lehmann in 1947. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. Light pushing to the spine tips. Blue covers are clean with sharp corners. Upper text block a little dusty. Mild offsetting to the end papers. The WRAPPER is complete and is in near FINE condition. Minor edge wear to the spine tips. The John Minton wraparound design wrapper artwork looks very striking in the removable Brodart archival protector. The book has been Inscribed and Signed by the Author (in the year of publication) to Beatrix Lehmann on the front blank endpaper. Beatrix Lehmann was the sister of the publisher John Lehmann and the author Rosamond Lehmann. Beatrix was a distinguished actress who played alongside many leading actors such as Sir Ralph Richardson and was also at one time,President of the Equity Council. The book has also been Signed to the front blank end paper by the poet Carmen D'Alessio (The Rosamond Lehmann archive has correspondence from this poet). The book is accompanied by a two sided hand-written letter from Beatrix Lehmann referring to the Equity Council and the problems of staging a play. The recipient of the letter is unknown. Alan Ross's first collection of poetry and his first published collaboration with illustrator John Minton. A Scarce association item.
