The original decorated boards by Ricketts remain in lovely condition. Free from inscriptions. Rossetti's 'Blessed Damozel' first appeared in the second number of the Pre-Raphaelite journal 'The Germ' in 1850 which was when it first drew the admiration of Ricketts. Charles (de Sousy) Ricketts RA was a British artist, illustrator, author and printer, known for his work as a book designer and typographer and for his costume and scenery designs for plays and operas. He first made his mark in book production, first as an illustrator, and then as the founder and driving force of The Vale Press , one of the leading private presses of the day, for which he designed the type and illustrations. An exquisite little book from The Vale Press which is increasingly elusive to find with its original decorated boards. The book is protected in a loose Mylar archival cover.
