Winner of the the second Booker Prize for Fiction
Rubens, Bernice : The Elected Member
Eyre and Spottiswoode, London : 1969
The First Uk printing published by Eyre and Spottiswoode, London in 1969. The BOOK is in Very Good++ or better condition with very light pushing at the spine tips. The gilt titling remains very bright. One small neat previous owner's name to the upper blank front end-paper. Light toning and spotting to the text-block. One or two spots have encroached on to the outer page edges in less than a handful of pages. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good++ condition. It is the correct first issue. A little rubbing and loss of laminate at the spine ends and lower corners, but far less so than usually encountered. The wrapper is protected in a removable Brodart archival cover. Loosely inserted is a postcard with a 'Rembrandt' image which was used for Rubens' book 'Kingdom Come. This card has been inscribed the verso : 'To Paul Schofield, Bernice Rubens'. The scarce winner of the second 'Booker Prize for Fiction'. An increasingly elusive title to find in collectible condition.
