Very scarce with the glassine wrapper
Sansom, William & Freud, Lucian (Illus.) ~ The Equilibriad : With The Scarce Printed Glassine Wrapper
The Hogarth Press, London : 1948
The sole UK printing published by the Hogarth Press in 1948. The book is in near Fine condition with mild toning and spotting to the end papers and text block. The pages are clean. 750 numbered copies issued, this being marked 'Out of Series' to the limitation page and is unsigned by the author. Five full page B/W plates by Lucian Freud which are all in wonderful clean condition. The buckram-backed marbled boards and leather spine are very sharp. The gilt titling remains bright. A hint of pushing at the spine ends. Free from inscriptions and erasures. The elusive printed Glassine WRAPPER is present, intact and complete. The front flap has the printed title and price present as called for. The wrapper is extremely scarce and fragile, and few have survived. The book and wrapper are protected in the removable Mylar archival cover and presents very well. 'William Sansom was once described as London's closest equivalent to Franz Kafka. He wrote in hallucinatory detail, bringing every image into pin-sharp focus. He fell from favour, but now there is a movement to rediscover his finest works.' (The Independent). As nice a copy as you are likely to find. Scarce with such attributes.
