Sharp, Margery ~ The Rescuers
Collins, London : 1959
The First UK printing published by Collins, London in 1959. The BOOK is in Very Good++ or better condition. Light fading to the spine and edges. The gilt titling remains bright. Mild offsetting to the end-papers. Free from inscriptions. Light toning and spotting to the text-block with the pages remaining clean. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good++ condition. Light edge wear with a little rubbing and slither of loss at the spine ends just affecting some of the lettering of the publisher's details. Some toning to the spine with some light spotting to the rear panel. Some tape reinforcement to the spine ends and upper front flap fold to the verso. The jacket artwork by Selma Nankivell looks striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. Profusely illustrated in B/W by Judith Brook throughout. This Sharp's best known work and the first title in 'The Rescuers' series about two mice named Bernard and Miss Bianca, which was later adapted in two animated feature films : 'The Rescuers' and 'The Rescuers Down Under', by Disney. An increasingly elusive title.
