This copy inscribed on the half-title page by the author 'Best Wishes from Posy Simmonds', with an original pen and ink sketch of Lulu beneath. The British Cartoonist and illustrator Posy Simmonds is perhaps best known for her long association with The Guardian, for which she drew the series Gemma Bovery (2000) and Tamara Drewe (2005–06), both of which were later published as books. This children's story predates those publications by many years, and centres around a young girl, whose father refuses to let her play in the snow-covered park. Dragged instead to a museum, she meets a talking cherub statue, who flies her on a series of adventures within the paintings in one of the galleries. A bookmark for the Smarties Prize in 1988, for which this book was shortlisted in the category of 6-8 year olds, is loosely inserted. Protected in a removable Mylar cover.
