Number '5' of only 265 copies of the deluxe edition, signed by the author on the limitation leaf and finely bound by Zaehnsdorf. Publisher's original red morocco with the spine lettered in gilt. Five raised bands with a grapevine design to the front cover in gilt with green and turquoise onlay. Gilt vine roll to turn-in, all edges gilt and marbled end-papers. A very handsome production with many full-page maps, diagrams and colour photographs. André Louis Simon (1877-1970) 'was the charismatic leader of the English wine trade for almost all of the first half of the 20th century, and the grand old man of literate connoisseurship for a further 20 years. In 66 years of authorship, he wrote 104 books' (Robinson & Harding, The Oxford Companion to Wine, p. 668). James Gabler (Wine into Words) further commented on Andre Simon : '..bibliophile, gourmet, wine connoisseur, historian and writer - is unrivalled in his contribution to the 'art of good living'. This book was published the year before he died. Housed in the original publisher's plain clamshell, fleece-lined cloth box which is lightly age marked. Collectible.
