Thomas, Helen ~ As It Was…World without End : The First Omnibus Edition
Heinemann, London : 1935
The First UK printing published by Heinemann, London in 1935. The BOOK is in Very Good++ condition. Very light pushing at the spine tips with a hint of pushing at the corners. Some light spotting to the prelims and rear blank end-papers. A light crease to the upper corner of the pages, most likely a production fault. Free from inscriptions. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good condition. Mild rubbing and creasing to the spine tips. Some age related markings with some toning and fading of the colouring to the spine. Light toning to the edges. A small erasure to the upper rear panel where the words 'five shilling' have been lightly erased from the wording 'Heinemann five shilling series'. This light erasure is not very obtrusive. The wrapper is protected in a removable Brodart archival cover. The first combined edition of Helen Thomas' two successive memoirs brought together in the same binding by their original publisher. The text of 'As It Was' is the same as Heinemann's 1931 edition, issued to coincide with the first publication that year of 'World Without End', ie. it includes the passage expurgated from the 1926 first edition. In these memoirs, Helen Thomas tells her moving story of love, courtship and marriage to the poet Edward Thomas, who was killed at Arras in 1917. Very elusive to find with the wrapper.
